Camp Canadensis has become the most special place in the world since my father, “Uncle” Bill Saltzman, founded it in 1941. A summer has not gone by without me at camp, beginning as a camper, then CIT, becoming a counselor, and then group leader. I have done every job that there is to do at camp, including working in the office, managing the dining hall, making the menus, hiring the staff, bookkeeping, and purchasing. As camp’s owner, I want each and every summer to be the best it can possibly be! I continue to carry on all of the wonderful traditions and uphold the fine reputation for which Canadensis is known. I am pictured here with my husband Don.
The little guy you see in the picture is Will, proudly named after his Paternal Great Grandfather; Camp Canadensis founder William Y. Saltzman, known to multiple generations of spirited campers as, ‘Uncle Bill’. I grew up at camp, as did my sisters, my Father Jim, and my Uncle Steve and Aunt Terri. There are no sweeter or more powerful memories than those of my Canadensis years - and a lifetime full of camp friends as well. My wife Erin and I are deeply involved in the larger community, she as a knowledgeable and respected physician with a Philadelphia based practice specializing in Endocrinology, and I as a Director with Oppenheimer & Co.
When Bill Saltzman founded Camp Canadensis in 1941, he hired my grandfather's brother, Sam Cozen, as camp's first Head Counselor. I was, of course, thrilled when the opportunity arose to become a co-owner with the Saltzmans and reunite our families after two generations! A Camp Akiba alumn, and Color War Captain, my wife and I had chosen Camp Canadensis as the obvious summer home for our children. And as a parent of two children who have now spent 13 wonderful summers at Canadensis, I have a well-rounded perspective regarding the camp experience. I am pictured with my wife, Susan, and daughters Carli and Melanie.
