MATT UNGER, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
I’m lucky enough to call Camp Canadensis my home for the past 25 years! I was a camper for five summers and ultimately moved on to be a bunk counselor, work in Evening Activities, and then Operations. After going to college at The University of Albany, I joined camp full time in Operations before becoming the Director of Operations. I am responsible for everything you don’t see that makes camp run, from the Dining Hall to maintenance, purchasing, transportation, and the overall camp facility.
I live at camp for 5 ½ months and run our pre-camp and post-camp seasons. During the Winter, I live in Allentown, PA with my wife Melissa, our son Ben and daughter Shelby. Melissa is a third grade teacher in the Allentown School District and spent 5 summers working at camp. I am so excited to share my love of Canadensis and the New York Mets with Ben and Shelby, among a lot of other exciting things.
One of the best parts about working for camp is that every day is unique. While I’m no longer spending countless hours a week on an ambulance, I still maintain my certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. I also hold a ServSafe® Food Handler Certification and have a commercial driver’s license with school bus, passenger, and air brake endorsements. How many other people can drive a school bus, provide emergency medical treatment while making sure everyone’s food is being handled correctly?
CARLI “CJ” SUKONIK, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
I started as a camper at Camp Canadensis in 2003, and since then have gone through our CIT program, have been a counselor, and a Group Leader. I am now thrilled to be a year round staff member, and to be able to help my family own and manage Canadensis on a full time basis.
I love spending my summers as the Assistant Director, where I get to spend time with our campers and staff, oversee our Art Department and help to manage our tours for future campers and their families. In the off-season, I have the pleasure of going on home visits to spend time with many of our new campers and their families. I also hire staff, work on our marketing, and oversee our tuition payments program.
Prior to working full time at camp, I graduated from Lehigh University where I played Division I Lacrosse, earned a B.A. in Graphic Design, and minored in Psychology. After graduating I continued my education to earn a Master’s Degree in Camp Administration and Leadership.
MIKAYLA BELLACH, TOUR COORDINATOR
I also started as a camper at Camp Canadensis in 2003, and since then have gone through our CIT program, have been a counselor, a Group Leader and ran Evening Activities. It’s always been my dream to work full time at Canadensis!
I help to manage our tours for future campers and their families, and oversee the Tour & More Program, which gives kids a longer chance to experience a day of camp fun. In the off-season, I am involved in the hiring process, and will usually be the first voice you hear when calling the camp office!
Prior to working full time at camp, I graduated from Indiana University.
