CITs 2014 – ALYSSA KRUMAN

Alyssa and Emily are ready for camp!

Alyssa and Emily are ready for camp!

Alyssa Kruman is from Armonk, NY and has been a Canadensis camper for 8 years! When she’s at home in the off-season she enjoys hanging out with her friends, taking care of her 2 snakes, and baking, which comes as no surprise – her favorite camp activity is cooking! One of her favorite camp memories is the time she spent planning prom last summer – prom is a huge senior camp dance thrown by the Super Seniors and they put a lot of time and effort into making the night a success! Alyssa never leaves for camp without her Nintendo DS, and her dream job is to be a Camp Counselor. Going to camp has taught Alyssa  that camp friends are the best friends and they will always be there for you. She wants all of our new campers to know that they shouldn’t waste any time at camp arguing with each other, because your 7 weeks together go by too quickly! Alyssa is planning to go on every ride in Disney on her CIT trip to Walt Disney World this summer, and when she leaves Canadensis in August she will head out of the 18325 having had the best summer of her life!

CITs 2014 – CASSIDY SIEGEL

Cassidy and Alexa are exCITed for the summer!

Cassidy and Alexa are exCITed for the summer!

Cassidy Siegel is from Livingston, New Jersey, and has been a Canadensis camper for 8 years! When she’s not at camp she enjoys baking, watching Netflix, and finding other cool ways to procrastinate from her homework. Her favorite camp activity is Zumba and she dominates the bunk cake eating contests! One of Cassidy’s favorite camp memories is the post-visiting day canteen rave – a  dance thrown by the senior campers with themed attire and crazy lights. Cassidy loves dogs more than people, never leaves for camp without her lucky necklace, and her dream job is to become a Food Critic.  Going to camp has taught her that there’s nothing better than having amazing camp friends who will always be there for you, and she wants all of our new campers to make sure to try every camp activity, and go on all the optional overnight, because those times will be where your best memories are made. Before Cassidy leaves camp… although she’s made it clear that she’s just NEVER leaving camp… she hopes to be hypnotized by Brad Henderson.

Hobbies When You’re at Home: I sing, I dance, I act, hang out with friends and stud!!!

Secret Talent: I don’t really have a secret one because everyone knows that I can sing however I have a secret language, zubidik, that only I can speak. My second summer, I claimed I had a concussion after I banged my head on the bed board and I started talking strange and that’s what I called it! Silly but always remembered!!

Favorite Camp Activity: EVERYTHING. There is never a dull moment at camp, you should love everything you get a chance to do because there are so many things to choose from!
Funny Camp Memory: In 2006 when there was water dripping over mine and Lindsay Gelber’s bed so in order to fix it, Lindsay and I had to move our beds to the middle of the bunk, beds facing opposite directions so that we couldn’t get wet!!
Advice for a First Time Camper: Camp will forever and always be your home away from home. Your bunkmates will be the sisters you’ve never had, ignore the little fights because you learn to laugh about it later in the day. Your camp friends will be your sisters and best friends forever. Where else in the world can you be with your bestfriends 24/7? Camps too short to not enjoy every second, so make it worth while 🙂
Something You Learned at Camp:  How to be a true friend
I never leave for camp without my… BLUE AND GOLD APPAREL and my baby blanky! I’m a child at heart, that blanket travels with me all the time!! 🙂
If I could have any job in the world it would be… to become famous!! It’s my talent!!

Spring Things

I hope everyone has been enjoying my “Meet the CITs” postings, they really are an amazing group of people and you all have NO IDEA how much fun and spirit they are going to bring to camp this summer. You thought camp was fun? You thought we had spirit? To quote the song… You aint seen nothing yet!!!

But, I must take a moment to pause my regularly scheduled blogging to update everyone on all the happenings in and around my office life lately. Last night finally brought bread back into my life as another Passover passed over us, so today is made even better by the lack of matzo in my lunch routine! Our family’s Passover celebration was highlighted by the Macaron tower I created, much to the delight of everyone’s taste buds. Kosher for Passover, Gluten Free, Nut Free – there was a treat for everyone! Even my puppy, Bella, tried to devise a way to climb our chairs and tables to steal a treat… luckily she did not succeed!

Wondering how far she can jump...

That weekend, my mother and I had plans for a double show day in the city! Lucky for us, Sarabeth’s had an alternative to their usually delcious muffins…

Matzo Heaven!

After I posted that picture on Instagram, CIT Mindy sent me a message saying that she was at Sarabeth’s as well! We had been at the Tribeca location, while Mindy and her family were at Central Park South. After we saw our first show downtown we made our way back uptown and finally got to see the Rosenthals… along with surprise guest star, Alex Feigin!

Alex, Cara, Mindy, and Rachel!

It’s always fun to run into your camp friends, even if it’s only for a few minutes! After our evening show we made our way home, although we’ve already got plans to return for some more theatrical fun next weekend! If you’re going to be in the city perhaps we’ll have another camp story to tell!

Gifts Galore!

When I’m not seeing shows or busy working in the office I’ve been having a blast experimenting with all sorts of French Macaron flavors! I must give a HUGE shout-out to Jason Calabretta, who hooked me up with some insane flavors to try. From s’mores to chocolate fudge – my kitchen is practically a bakery! Perhaps this is an iCan night in the making – what do you think?

Leo would like a puppy macaron, please?!

CITs 2013: Jordan Rosen!

Grama and J-Ro Love Fruit on the Fly!

Name: Jordan “J-Ro” Rosen

Years at Camp: This will be my 8th summer.

Hobbies When You’re at Home: watching tv, XBOX, playing tennis, running (both horizontally and vertically)

Secret Talent: It’s not really a talent but the skin on my stomach is really stretchy.

Favorite Camp Activity: Cooking is the obvious choice, but I also enjoy the overnights, NBA, the triple dare, and doing the spotlight with Grama.

Funny Camp Memory: On our Cleveland trip, we stopped at a marketplace for lunch. I am a picky eater and there was nothing I liked so I bought a 2-foot baguette to eat and people who didn’t know me thought I was very strange.

Advice for a First Time Camper: Always take advantage of the opportunities camp provides you with. I have tried stuff at camp that I never thought I would have the chance to. For example, I went on my first big rollercoaster as a junior (Steel Force) and last summer I went on one of the biggest in the world (Millenium Force). Also, I never went waterskiing, ziplining, dirt biking, or white water rafting outside of camp. Being open to doing more things leads to more memories being created at camp.

Something You Learned at Camp: how to send and address mail

I never leave for camp without my…fan, because I can’t fall asleep when its hot out, and some nights it can get really hot!

If I could have any job in the world it would be…the owner of a large store like Wal-Mart, because everything I need is free and I would make a ton of money to spend on whatever I could possibly think of.

My favorite place I’ve traveled is…Aruba

One thing my campers will learn about me is…I suck at baseball and there is a good chance that my campers will be better than me.

One fun fact about me is: I do my homework (and this interview) on my bedroom floor. I used to do it in bed, but I would fall asleep in the middle of it.

Mindy, J-Ro, Grama, and the infamous Baguette
